Vancouver BC. Sarah Sidhu. India is working on a proposal for Visa on Arrival (VOA) facility for US Citizens and Tourists, on of the big ticket announcements expecyed to be made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vist to the United Nations, beginning September 26.
B.C.Peoples Party, president Vikram Bajwa has requested India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh, to include Canadian Citizens and tourists at par with USA. MHA in consultations with India’s Tourism Ministry, is working on the tourist VOA under which visa will be granted to US Citizens who do not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India would be recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives, etc, the sources said. According to Ministry of Tourism, about 10 lakh US Citizens visit India on an annual basis, which includes Non resident Indians, from Gujarat, Punjab, Kerala, Maharashtra, which according to Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is 6 Lakhs.
BC Peoples Party, president Vikram Bajwa, confirms the visitor from Canada is appox, 12 Lakhs, considering the NRI Canadian Citizens, visiting India, “so we have sent a request to Prime Minister of India’s Office, to include Canada on the VOA, policy of India”, this will generate tourism and exclude the delay in visas in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Ottawa.
