With less than 8 weeks for civic elections in Surrey British Columbia, reporter Tom Zytaruk of the newspaper Now, has divulged how Mayor Doug McCallum tried to muzzle the RCMP, during his term as Mayor of Surrey. After a gap of 9 years McCallum announced Safe Surrey Coalition, which contains a manifesto, based upon the value of “Public Safety”, accountability and Public engagement. Mayoral candidate Vikram Bajwa, rubbishes his platform by saying ” If Mr. Mayor McCallum, during his 9 years did not care about Public Safety, how will he care Now ?, its just the power trip he was involved in, for which he is recontesting as Mayor in 2014″. There is no truth to his side of Safe Surrey Platform, said Bajwa.
The late MP Chuck Cadman is on record was so concerned about the crime in the City, the same story cited a senior RCMP source, who on the condition of anonymity, claimed McCallum had pressured police into with holding bad news about crime in Surrey, “McCallum doesn’t like any kind of negative story about crime, period, the senior cop charged.
In contest of his Mayoral History ” Doug McCallum should replace himself and nominate Laurie Guerro as Safe Surrey candidate”, said Bajwa. ” This will avoid the “haunt of RCMP muzzle, including but not limited to the Media focus on his Mayoral years”. “There is no candidate in Vancouver or any city of British Columbia, who has such a terrible record as Former Mayor Doug MCcallum and is contesting in 2014″, said Sukhjit Dhillon.
