Plantar fasciitis may be caused by overuse, occupational considerations such as jobs which involve standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time, an increase in physical activity or shoes with inadequate support. Davis advises that shoes which feel soft generally feel better at first but “support always wins the day.” The most important part of the shoe is the shank, the area in the middle of the shoe that connects the heel to the ball of the foot. It is okay for the shoe to be flexible near the toe joints but the shank should be firm in order to provide proper support.

Common treatments for plantar fasciitis include stretching, ice massage, shoes with improved support, rest and anti-inflammatory medication. If plantar fasciitis symptoms persist for more than a few weeks then the pain can become chronic and more aggressive treatments are in order. There are reasons why heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis may become chronic, generally related to faulty foot and leg mechanics. Some causes of chronic plantar fasciitis include a tight heel cord (Achilles tendon), the back of the foot rolling in too much (subtalar joint overpronation) or the front of the foot rolling out too much (midtarsal joint oversupination). There are a number of patients who have heel pain that seems to persist despite treatment. Such cases were termed “intractable plantar fasciitis” in the past. Viendomovies Goes Behind the Scenes at the Miami International Film Festival

Another film competing in The Knight Competition is “To Kill a Man” by Jorge Fernandez Almendras, winner of the “Grand Jury Prize” from Sundance Festival. The film is about Jorge, a middle class citizen, who is the target of street thugs and sheds light on the plight between the law of human nature versus man made law.

“Septimo” by Patxi Amezcua, another Latin American director, which tells the story of a father in search for his missing children. The film stars Ricardo Darin, a renowned Argentine actor, and has been a hit in Argentina with over 1 million spectators. Amezcua commented during his interview with ViendoMovies that the film was inspired by personal experience, when he lived on the seventh floor and had a similar experience with his children. Amezcua said the MIFF is a great platform to enter the United States market.

“La Cueva” (In Darkness We Fall) directed by Alfredo Montero will also be premiering at the MIFF. The film is a realistic horror movie about 5 friends that go on vacation and decide to explore a cave, when they get lost. The friends are fighting to survive in this moral experimentation where one error can make the difference between life and death. In his interview with ViendoMovies, Montero commented that casting was difficult to try and find novice actors to add to the realism and who would be willing to endure the physical toll the movie entailed. Similar to “La Cueva” is “The Fault” by the Colombian Director Simon Brand. The film develops its horror category through realistic circumstances within the movie.

Merchant Marine Captain Susan Orsini to be Featured on Close-Up Talk Radio

LIGHTNING RELEASES 03/04/14 –Incline Village, NV – As America prepared for revolution, it was the merchants who formed our country’s first navy to fight the British. Today, those merchants comprise the Merchant Marine, the fleet of civilian-owned merchant vessels that transport goods and services and serve as an auxiliary to the Navy to deliver troops and supplies when called upon in times of war. Indeed, the Merchant Marine remains critical to the security of our country, earning its unofficial designation as the “invisible service.”

“We’re the logistics force,” says Captain Susan Orsini. “Wherever the Navy is, that’s where we are. We contribute a lot and we’re not known, but we take pride in our anonymity.”

Captain Susan Orsini is a 25-year veteran of the Merchant Marine and only the second female master with Military Sealift Command. Orsini took an unusual path to the Merchant Marine. A self-described small-town girl from Colorado, Orsini spent a year in the Philippines as part of a student-exchange program where she was exposed to the country’s vibrant seagoing culture. While studying abroad, she was accepted to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Her first assignment found her boarding the Mercy, a hospital ship bound for Operation Desert Shield.

“I used to read a lot, and books would take me all over the world,” recalls Orsini. “Now I was able to see the world and it was beautiful and dramatic and satisfying, but most importantly, we were doing something of service.”

As far as being one of the few women in the Merchant Marine, Orsini says that was never her goal.

“When you are assigned to a ship you have a minimum of a six month commitment to that ship, so when someone shows up to relieve you, you don’t care if they’re a woman or they have three legs or they’re orange, because that means you get to go home,” says Orsini. “Whether they’re entry-level or a master, everyone on the ship has a lot of responsibility. It’s an interrelated community. I don’t think I’ve done anything special. I just went out and did my job.”

Literary Lady Patricia Daly-Lipe to be Featured on Close-Up Talk Radio

Acclaimed author, artist and educator Patricia Daly-Lipe is an expert on the nature of creativity and the process of artistic expression. Her book, A Cruel Calm, Paris Between the Wars was awarded first place in historical fiction by the Royal Dragonfly Book awards. Her latest book, a biography of her great uncle, The Patriot Priest, is now available through Strategic Media Books.

“I wanted to go beyond ‘who, what, where, when,’” explains Patricia. “I wanted to know the ‘why.’ To me it’s all about inspiring and making people understand that there are no answers, just more questions. Creativity is about opening those doors.”

Patricia is also the author of Myth, Magic and Metaphor, A Journey Into the Heart of Creativity. The book is based on Patricia’s experience conducting creative writing a class of the same for students including professors from the naval academy in Annapolis. Patricia was able to help these students, whose entire lives were structured by rules and regulations, to open their minds to the possibility of a world without rules, the world of their own creativity.

“I think everyone has their own voice,” says Patricia. “If you allow your voice to express itself and get lost in your own words, you’ll find things you’ve kept in cubby holes in your brain. It’s healthy, it’s therapeutic and that’s what writing should be all about. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. Take your own imagination and convert it to words.”

According to Patricia, what distinguishes a work of fiction from journalism is the possibility of a shared act of imagination between the writer and the reader, but achieving that shared act requires tremendous discipline. Patricia’s journey as a writer has led her to study the etymology of words to ensure she chooses her words precisely, the words that best express her feelings.

“I really love the creative process,” says Patricia. “When you write, it’s a gift for whoever reads it.”
