ST. ANDREW’S SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW HEADMASTER

BARRINGTON, RI. February 25, 2015 — St. Andrew’s School Board of Trustees announced the appointment of David Tinagero as the school’s eighth Headmaster. This appointment follows a global search launched last June to identify the successor to John D. Martin, who announced his retirement in February of 2014.


Mr. Tinagero was unanimously selected from over 70 candidates and will assume the position effective July 2015. He brings fifteen years of educational leadership experience to St. Andrew’s as an administrator and teacher. As a native New Yorker, he is currently the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at New York University Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Tinagero earned two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in English/Language Arts Teacher Educations and a Masters of Science in Education Supervision and Administration with Distinction, from Mercy College.


“The Board of Trustees has entrusted in me the responsibility of building upon the strong foundations that you have worked so tirelessly to maintain since 1893,” wrote Mr. Tinagero in a statement to the St. Andrew’s community that accompanied the Search Committee’s announcement. “The St. Andrew’s ethos – to promote lifelong learning in an environment where diversity, respect, and tolerance are paramount, and to focus on the individual talents and needs of each student – align perfectly with my own principles.”

Obamacare Tax Mix-up Affects Hundreds of Thousands—Other Alternatives Begin to Look More Appealing





A mere days after President Obama announced this month that 11.4 million people enrolled or renewed their registration under the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration suffered serious setbacks, causing frustration for many with the program.


On February 20th of this month, it was revealed that 800,000 HealthCare.gov customers received incorrect tax information from the government, which will result in delayed tax filings and possible penalties for many. According to a Huffington Post report, “another 50,000 or so who already filed may have to resubmit their returns.”


A recent CBS study further states that the program could undergo further changes where potentially millions of registrants could lose their subsidies.


Since the program’s inception in 2010, the path to universal healthcare has been rocky, with various issues including website difficulties, technical glitches, confusing plans, and expensive premiums, to name a few.


Senator Rand Paul, among the many critics of the law states that, “what’s going to come out of Obamacare is worse than anybody can imagine.”


The highly visible flaws with the system have caused many to ponder what alternatives are available, especially for those who prefer alternative healthcare methods, where the Affordable Care Act falls short. At the current time, the Affordable Care Act is said to cover only “essential health benefits” which some critics have said will “kill Alternative medicine in America.”

Hazmat Training Comes to Indianapolis

February 26, 2015 – When workers handle hazardous waste or ship hazardous materials, training is not just a good idea, it’s the law. According to the EPA, workers who handle hazardous waste must be trained annually, and the federal DOT requires that workers involved in the shipment of hazardous materials be trained at least every three years. Many workers never get this training, which can result in tragic accidents and big penalties. Environmental Resource Center’s “DOT and RCRA Annual Update and Refresher” course is the perfect way for workers to get their mandatory annual hazardous waste training as well as their DOT 49 CFR recurrent training.


In addition, personnel who ship hazardous materials by air or water must receive training mandated by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) every two years and International Maritime Organization (IMO) every three years. With the recent chemical spills in West Virginia and North Carolina, many companies now understand the importance of working with their local government agencies and emergency responders to prevent, prepare for, and respond to chemical incidents. That’s the goal of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act (also known as SARA Title III). This law requires both companies and government agencies to inform the surrounding community about their facility’s hazardous substances and prepare for accidental releases.


Environmental Resource Center, the leading provider of environmental and safety training, will present the mandatory training in Indianapolis at the Crowne Plaza – Indianapolis Airport, March 17-19, 2015.


DOT and RCRA Annual Update and Refresher will be taught on March 17.


Transportation of Dangerous Goods: Compliance with IATA and IMO Regulations will be held on March 18 and SARA Title III (EPCRA) Workshop will be held on March 19 at the same location.

Three ElectraTherm Waste Heat-to-Power Generators Running in Alaska


LIGHTNING RELEASES (2/18/2015) – ElectraTherm, a leader in distributed, waste heat to power generation, commissioned three Green Machines to produce fuel-free, emission-free electricity from diesel gensets at the Dutch Harbor power plant in the remote Aleutian islands of Alaska. ElectraTherm’s “Green Machine” Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) generators capture the waste heat from the jacket water of two Wartsila W12V32 and one CAT C280-16 at temperatures as low as 165°F to generate approximately 75kWe net for the site. The power generated is sent to the grid, where residential costs of power are some of the highest in North America at $.45/kW. The City of Unalaska and the Alaska Energy Authority purchased the three ORC generators to utilize an untapped, existing resource at the power plant. The City of Unalaska estimates approximately $250,000 annual fuel savings. The project was funded by $1.3 Million grant from Alaska Energy Authority’s Renewable Energy Fund, which has allowed savings to be passed directly to utility customers.


The Green Machine ORCs offset the radiators on the gensets significantly; radiator power consumption is reduced by an estimated 8,000 kWh per month, equating to 6,000 gal of fuel saved per year. The reduction of cooling loads is an additional benefit to the electricity generated for profit, equating to a “radiator with a payback.”


The installation in Unalaska is ElectraTherm’s first application on diesel prime power, and ElectraTherm anticipates repeatable opportunities in remote locations where there are diesel reliant rural populations. At the site, hot water enters the Green Machines, where it heats a working fluid into pressurized vapor. As the vapor expands, it drives ElectraTherm’s patented twin screw power block, which spins an electric generator and produces power. All three ORC generators utilize one cooling loop, sea water with an input temperature of 45°F.

ElectraTherm’s Green Machine generates fuel-free, emission-free power from low temperature waste heat, on applications such as internal combustion engines, biomass, geothermal/co-produced fluids and solar thermal. ElectraTherm’s Green Machine fleet of 48 global installations has accrued more than 315,000 hours of runtime to date. A list of reference sites is currently available on the website.

GESS Dubai to Shed Light On Youth Sector’s Untapped Potential Towards Region’s Future Prosperity

Experts and stakeholders attending the region’s premier educational show and conference are expected to call on decision-makers to develop action plans that will help the region’s youth acquire the necessary skills to actively contribute to their local economies, by generating enough employment opportunities that will provide 84 million jobs for unemployed youth.


Education will be a critical factor in the mammoth task of job creation, with the International Monetary Fund saying in a 2014 report that “economic diversification and stimulation can be achieved by enhancing the quality of education”.


Meanwhile, GESS Dubai organisers also announced that a comprehensive outlook on the education sector will be revealed at the forum, through a report that will be presented by Ahmed Mansoor, Director, Healthcare, Education & PPP, Colliers International. Entitled the Dubai Education Overview: Growth Potential in a Competitive Environment , the report highlights the critical factors that will impact the growth of the education market in Dubai.


“In the last decade, the private education sector in Dubai has witnessed significant growth; doubling enrolment figures and introducing additional supply. With demand anticipated to increase as the Emirati and expat population grows, an additional 52 new schools will be required in the Emirate by 2020 – which in turn will increase the competitive landscape within the market,” explained Mansoor.

Total Safety Granted FAA Exemption for Commercial Use of Drones in Flare Inspections

SIMPLEPR: HOUSTON (2/9/2015)– Total Safety U.S. Inc. (“Total Safety” or “the company”) today announced the company has been granted regulatory exemption for commercial use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) — small drones – for operations involving the inspection of flare stacks. This makes Total Safety the only company approved to perform flare inspections on land using Unmanned Aircraft Systems and one of just 24 companies throughout the United States granted exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) drone restrictions for specific commercial use.


Flare maintenance is critical work that often requires expensive downtime from our customers but it is work that needs to be done routinely to ensure the safety of employees and facilities including plants, refineries, pipelines, tank batteries, drilling rigs, production rigs, and in many manufacturing environments. Typically, when regular inspection and maintenance are conducted on a flare, that unit or system must be taken offline or a temporary flare must be used to bypass it. This could mean hours or days with reduced or no production.


Dangerous Inspection Work


Flares can be several hundred feet tall and have discharge temperatures in excess of 2000F. In some cases it is not possible to shut the flare down to perform the inspection. When this situation occurs, there are risky options such as climbing a nearby structure or using a sky lift for a better view of the flare but this is dangerous work. Some may even choose to climb the flare while it is in operation. “Total Safety does not recommend the latter approach as it is extremely dangerous,” said General Manager of Total Safety Flare Services Lawrence Crynes of San Antonio.


A third alternative for inspecting active flares comes with a high price tag. It is using a helicopter for aerial inspection.


“Typically chemical plants and refineries are no fly zones so making these visual inspections is only possible from a distance,” Crynes said. “But distance and other factors can compromise the effectiveness of an inspection and they are sometimes impossible to do because of weather, trees, wires, fencing and other restrictions.”


Finding a Safer, More Efficient and More Accurate Solution

“Our goal is to check the mechanical integrity of the flare and visible components to help determine the need for repair or replacement,” Crynes said.

New Documentary Breaking Bread Focused On Exposing Anti-Feeding Laws Across America

LIGHTNING RELEASES (2/4/2015) – “Breaking Bread” is a new documentary which follows social activist Arnold Abbott on his fight to feed the homeless in South Florida, against the anti-feeding laws imposed by the local government. The film, created by local filmmaker Kirk Gillon, will be

used to create awareness of the sharing and gifting of food; a fight that Arnold Abbot along with his organization Love Thy Neighbor.org has been doing for over 20 years. But the new anti-feeding laws stopped their mission and 91-year old Abbott and many others, were arrested this past fall as they tried to feed the homeless on a beach in Ft. Lauderdale.


Arnold, who is no stranger to battle, having fought in War War II, states, “As long as there is breath left in my body, I will fight it!” Breaking Bread will follow his journey as he fights the legal battle that is brewing and as Abbott takes his mission to cities across America to promote the sharing & gifting of food to other communities who battle anti-feeding laws.


Gillon, a filmmaker for over 25 years, has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for the making of the film as well as to help Abbott’s mounting legal bills. “This travesty is happening in my own backyard. I could not sit back and just watch. I need to help the best way I know how. I’m making this film to help Arnold raise awareness on a person’s right to feed others who are less fortunate. It’s the right thing to do.”

91 year-old War veteran Arnold Abbott of Love Thy Neighbor.org was arrested Nov. 5th, 2014 for feeding the homeless, something he has done for more than 20 years in South Florida. Abbott and others, including pastors from a local church, have been arrested or cited by the city for violating a newly formed city ordinance that prohibits the feeding of homeless people on city property. December 31st, a judge “suspended” the law for 45 days. On Feb. 14, 2015, the anti-feeding ordinance goes back into effect. On Valentine’s Day, the day of love… the city will uphold its law and continue to

cite/arrest Arnold Abbott along with the others that continue to feed the homeless.

Basketball League Looks to Improve America One Game at a Time


Former basketball player Jamar Johnson is on a mission to give adult recreational basketball players purpose and a chance to add value to communities and businesses with a new league concept.


LIGHTNING RELEASES — Tempe, AZ January 29th, 2015 – What do the founders of FedEx, Amazon, and Uber Car Service all have in common? They were all told that their business concepts would never work and yet they have all spawned a new segment within their respective industries that some would say they now command. In a few short years we could be adding a professional basketball league business called the Community Basketball Leagues (CBL) to the list.


According to a recent survey done by a major sports and fitness association, basketball was said to be the number one participation sport by amateurs and 4.2 million of the 30 million players in the United States play in adult men and women recreational basketball leagues. This was the data that made Chief CBL Commissioner, Jamar Johnson seize the moment.


“Seven years ago when I started the league no one thought that our national league concept would work,” said Johnson. Investors that he approached thought it was too early-stage and too risky as an unproven concept. It was the classic egg and the chicken scenario, says Johnson. At the time Johnson thought he needed investment so he could prove that the market was strong and viable. It became so frustrating that he abandoned the need for investors and sought out to fund the business himself.


Early in the venture Johnson was able to successfully win the hearts of a few sponsors that allowed him to make some significant headway toward scaling the business with teams nationally. For years, recreational leagues did not have to do much for its players except provide a ball, a couple of unlicensed game officials, and maybe throw in a league champs t-shirt. Not anymore, says Johnson. The CBL leverages NBA-like media technologies and prizes to enhance the experience and provide a professional feel for its players, fans, and sponsors alike.


This year the league went to a free team sign-up because they want more teams in or near the cities where they already have existing teams so teams can play up to thirty games. On January 5th, 2015 the CBL launched its annual registration campaign and within two weeks the league was tracking around 20,000 players nationwide.


“It is exciting to see every year how the word about the CBL is spreading throughout the country, but due to the fact that we still don’t have investors or big brand name national sponsors, we are left needing help financially so we can support as many teams as possible and improve our overall operational infrastructure, which will allow for the league to run properly,” said Johnson.

Cloud Developers Say Data Center is Weakest Link for Security New Evans Data Survey Shows

SANTA CRUZ, CA. February 3, 2015 – Security is the biggest barrier to developing applications for the Cloud and the data center is the most likely trouble spot for security according to 41% of Cloud developers. A little more than a third, 34.5%, thought the client was most likely to present security issues, while a quarter thought the most dangerous part was the actual transmission between the Cloud and the client. The recently released survey of over 400 developers actively developing for or deploying to a Cloud also found that perceptions of the security of a vendor’s Cloud service offerings were most effected by the vendor’s reputation for security in other products.


When it comes to the type of virtualization security mechanisms that are most essential to include in the data center, over half of the developers, 56%, thought that software to authorize or block hardware access to virtual machines was essential, while 48% identified security within the hypervisor, and 37% selected firmware to monitor data flows across VMs. Developers could select multiple mechanisms and on average selected 2.3.


“Security is a huge issue for developers and the convergence of Cloud, mobile, Big Data and IoT is making it more complex while at the same time more imperative” said Janel Garvin, CEO of Evans Data Corp, “The data center is the place where vendors can really focus their efforts, and that’s of upmost importance now.”

JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE ALLIANCE FOR INTEGRITY IN MEDICARE APPLAUDING SELF-REFERRAL REFORM PROPOSAL IN THE PRESIDENT’S FY 2016 BUDGET





THE ALLIANCE FOR INTEGRITY IN MEDICARE (AIM), a broad coalition of medical specialty, laboratory, radiation oncology, and medical imaging groups committed to ending the practice of inappropriate physician self-referral, is extremely pleased that President Obama’s FY 2016 Budget http://ift.tt/WL8nvo released today again recommends removing anatomic pathology, advanced diagnostic imaging, physical therapy, and radiation therapy from

the physician self-referral law’s in-office ancillary services (IOAS) exception. AIM has long supported additional limitations on physician self-referral, and we applaud the Administration for supporting Medicare beneficiaries by proposing to close the self-referral loophole for the third consecutive year.


The organizations comprising the AIM coalition continue to be concerned about the ongoing misapplication of the IOAS exception to the physician self-referral law. Independent evidence, including from the Government Accountability Officei, Health Affairsii, and The New England Journal of Medicineiii, and, most recently, The Journal of the American Medical Associationiv, consistently shows that the physician self-referral loophole results in increased spending, unnecessary utilization of medical services and potentially compromised patient choice and care, thereby eroding the integrity of the Medicare program.


AIM also commends AARP, which represents 38 million members, for recently recognizing the need to defend Medicare patients at risk of receiving unnecessary care caused by abusive, profit-motivated practices exploiting the IOAS exception. In a December 2014 letter to

Rep. Jackie Speier(D-Calif.) on her legislation to restrict self-referral abuse, AARP wrote:


“Closing the in-office ancillary services exception for certain services will save taxpayers and Medicare beneficiaries money and reduce unnecessary care.”


In addition, bipartisan policy experts, including The Moment of Truth Project and the Bipartisan Policy Center, have recommended narrowing the IOAS exception to eliminate abuse caused by this loophole.





AIM commends the Administration’s FY 2016 Budget for recommending the exclusion of anatomic pathology, advanced diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy and physical therapy services from the IOAS exception. The Office of Management and the Budget estimates that closing the loophole for these services would provide a savings of $6.02 billion dollars during the standard ten-year budget window.


The AIM coalition remains dedicated to improving patient care and preserving valuable Medicare resources, therefore we believe the IOAS reform proposal in the President’s FY 2016 Budget is a praiseworthy step towards those ends. Furthermore, AIM strongly urges the 114th Congress to build upon the recommendations of the Administration and others and pass legislation that removes advanced diagnostic imaging, anatomic pathology, radiation therapy, and physical therapy from the IOAS exception. Reforming this policy will ensure that Medicare patients receive the highest qual-ity and safest health care most appropriate to their needs, in addition to properly aligning Medicare policy incentives — a positive for beneficiaries, providers and all Americans.
